Youth Job Connection - Summer Program

Get Pre-Employment Training and Find Summer Jobs

Finding it difficult to get a summer job? The Youth Job Connection- Summer Program offers pre-employment training and work opportunities to help young people build rewarding careers. Designed for high school students (15 to 18 years of age) facing challenging life circumstances and multiple barriers to employment, it assists program participants with making informed decisions about education and career. Come to the Employment + Education Centre to learn more about this government-funded summer program. One of our experienced Youth Coaches will be happy to explain how it works.

Eligibility for the YJC-Summer Program

To be eligible for this summer program, you must be:

  • 15 to 18 years old at the time of registration
  • A high school student intending to stay in, or return to high school or access post-secondary education after the job placement
  • A resident of Ontario
  • Eligible to work in Canada

After participating in the Summer Program, school-aged youth are expected to return to high school. During the school year, individuals who are under 18 years of age may also participate in the Program part-time or during school holidays, so as not to interfere with schooling.

What YJC-Summer Offers Employers

Employers that participate in the YJC-Summer Program receive a number of benefits from Employment Ontario. These include:

  • Financial incentives for hiring a high school student (15 to 18 years old) through Youth Job Connection
  • Financial help to offset training costs
  • Pre-screened and suitably-matched employees that have received job readiness training and understand the expectations of the workplace
  • Experienced coaches that will provide ongoing support to you and your employee to ensure successful employment

Please note:

  • Employers must hire the individual for the period of time negotiated and specified in the contract
  • Wage subsidies will be negotiated on an individual placement basis to minimize the wage costs for the employer
